I’m at the lake. Dodge intrepid neighbors Replaced by Porsche T aycan neighbors. There was always lots of money up here but the “flashy money” was always across the road. It’s kind of wierd, there are usually a number of Ferrari’s/L ambos/R8s etc. But they’re in the “hood”. On this side of town, most folks (not us btw) are s tupid rich but tend to drive nice f150s or Rams.

I actually have more respect for rich people who spend their money on something like that, vs an $80,000 pickup truck. The second thing would be like being a billionaire and still living in a flimsy McMansion and eating fast food every day. It's like, come on, you can do better, so do better, damn it.

Well since they can’t come to their vacation house in W hitefish to drink at Casey’s and shoot off fireworks this weekend they are all spending the summer at home.

W ell the T aycan folks bought a little nice little cozy place from a 90 year old I ntrepid driver for 7 figures and they’re likely to tear it down.  And it’s a lease (we’re in a national park, will never technically own the property, just the cabin on it).

My parents sold their cottage a couple years ago for a similar figure.  Lease as well.  They built a monster on our little cottage’s spot

The thing about wealthy people is that they are cheap bastards. That’s how you accumulate wealth - By not spending your cash on expensive depreciating assets like expensive cars.

While true, I feel like tha t’s such a waste. Living comfortably is one thing, but denying yourself the pleasures of that money just to get more is lost on me.

I assume it’s theirs pretty much in perpetuity, and they can pass it down to their kids?

Are there any limits on what they can build there?

Yes, strict limits on square footage so people build up and get creative with waht’s “part of the house,  Guest house, or shed with 60" tv and wet bar.

Everything has a balance point. The concepts of savings and d elayed gratification shouldn’t be taken to the extreme. Just like living in the moment should not.

Being wealthy doesn’t mean that you’re happy, just as being poor doesn’t mean that you’re unhappy.

This one is my father-in law’s.  It is strictly never EVER to be sold. He’s not poor, but you now need ‘fuck you’ money to get in.  Also ours is a cabin, not a palace. It didn’t even get a TV until 1999.

My neighborhood recently acquired a new Stelvio and an Aztek. I haven’t sorted out what that predicts as far as property values yet.

it’s a 99 year lease,  I’m pretty sure we’ll get bent over in 2048.

I’d say all their non-suv products are ill suited to S ask. 66,000 miles of road, 1.2 million miserable, tradit ionally poor people to fund them.

My vehicles are generally old enough to buy their own beer.  If I really want to lower property values I can open up the garage and wheel out what is only 60% of a car that is 100% ghetto.

Hope it can stay in the family for a long time, but once that kind of money is at stake, it only gets harder and harder to hold onto a place like that, unless a trust is set up.

My sister-in-law’s family had an incredible ranch in Colorado. Unfortunately, 2 of the kids used it a ton, but the other 2 didn’t. Ending up selling it a few years back. Thankfully got to visit several times - still one of my favorite places on earth... Hope to get back there someday (somehow).

Probably the same, there are only 18 or so lake front cottages out of  I guess a thousand.  They go generations without changing hands.

We didn’t get running water or electricity until the mid 2000's and we used to stay there for up to two months at a time in the summer.

We sold it because it was in Alberta and we live in Vancouver.  With my sister and I growing up and my parents unwilling to drive the 12 hours to get there, it was pointless.
